One of the American favorite places to eat out is A&W. This originally local corporation started in Lodi, California, as one of the businesses that Frank Wright put up. He wanted to promote his new root beer business, so he asked Ro Allen to join him in a partnership. In 1919, the two established A&W which was taken from the initials of their surnames. After two successful years, Allen began franchising the A&W root beer which became an ultimate hit in the food industry.
The business was a great hit and they included a wide array of foods in the menu to complement the root beer that they produced. There are so many branches and locations of A&W that during some time in the 1970’s, it had more locations than the ever popular fast food chain McDonald’s. But this extreme success didn’t last. Some years after, the entire chain faltered and many branches needed to be closed.
But in the next few years, A&W again stood up and established more branches in the form of kiosks and food stalls. They set up over 200 locations of these food stalls which again became a great hit. That’s when they established the chain once more and spread it all over the globe. There are many different countries in North America, Europe, and Asia which have operational A&W chains, although many of them have already seen branches that have closed down.
The great thing about A&W is that it has all the American favorites offered in the menu. There are burgers, fries, and hotdogs, and then there’s the all-time favorite root beer float. The fast food chain was especially known for its frosty mugs which were chilled mugs used for root beer servings. Today, it is still very popularly known for its root beer and other root beer products such as floats.
